Grit and Glamour
A renovation in San Paulo, Brazil to turn house in an original Oscar Niemeyer building with three rooms into a loft with flexible spaces turns out gorgeous in its stripped down raw grit. Exposed copper pipes string down exposed concrete columns. Concrete is used as built in furniture like the bath counter, kitchen counter and open shelves while cabinets and vertical surfaces use the colour scheme of white and timber joinery unified by the timber floor makes the space so pleasant and livable.
A storage/ utility block separates the public and private spaces which can be integrated as one via industrial steel doors. The bathroom is magic in its simple glamour - just glassing up the bath tub makes it feel connected and open at once while keeping it pratical. A small mirror and bulb hanging from the ceiling more than suffices, whittling down bathroom rituals to what is essential.
